Though students enjoyed a day off on Monday, October 13, district teachers and the Department of Instruction were hard at work.
The all-day Professional Development workshop, “Clarification Project and Assessment,” was presented to all of the district’s teachers and teaching assistants, including those in special education, representing grade levels from kindergarten through 12th grade.
The day began with a breakfast meeting in the Montclair High School cafeteria at 8:00, after which participants convened in the auditorium for the keynote address.
The event’s keynote speaker was Dr. Grant Wiggins, a nationally acclaimed educator, author and innovator in the area of educational assessment. A Harvard Ed.D recipient, Dr. Wiggins serves as President of Authentic Education in Hopewell, New Jersey, in addition to consulting with school districts and state education departments throughout the country. His work includes workshop and conference organization and he has garnered a reputation as an author of merit through such publications as the award-winning “Understanding by Design,” along with the “Understanding by Design Handbook,” both co-authored with Jay McTighe.
At Monday’s Professional Development day, presentations were offered in the afternoon by teaching staff representing all of the district’s schools in every area of academic discipline.
