Montclair High School Hosts African-American Read-In
Montclair High School held its annual African American Read-In on Tues., Feb. 8, coordinated by MHS teachers Joyce Hobbs and Elizabeth Voltman and MHS librarian Michelle Madden. The event featured a performance by the West African Drum Club and readings by MHS Principal James Earle and Montclair author Denise Lewis Patrick. Earle read “Henry’s Freedom Box: A True Story from the Underground Railroad,” and Patrick read a selection from a book in a series she co-wrote about the newest American Girl doll, Cécile Rey. Watchung School fourth graders attended the event and spent time in reading groups with MHS Bridge Scholars and exploring Voltman’s South Africa-themed station.
