Back to School nights are in full swing in the Montclair Public Schools. Several have already taken place since earlier in the month and the remaining district schools will host theirs within the next two weeks:
Thurs., Sep. 27, Glenfield, 7 p.m.
Tue., Oct. 2, Bradford, 7 p.m.
Wed., Oct. 3, Northeast, 7 p.m.
Thurs., Oct. 4, Hillside, 7 p.m.
Tues., Oct. 9, Bullock, 6:30 p.m.
Thu., Oct. 10, Renaissance, 7 p.m.
Parents are encouraged to take this opportunity to visit their children’s schools and classrooms and get to know their principals, children’s teachers, administrators and support staff, some for the first time.
Things you’ll likely learn during the course of the evening:
- An overview of the curriculum
- Information about testing
- Homework policies (how much kids should do; if and how much parents should get involved and when, etc.)
- If and when the teacher is available to help a child out of class
- The disciplinary policy
- Contact information
A reminder: this is not a time to discuss your child's individual needs or progress — save that for parent/teacher conferences when the teacher knows your child better and can talk with you one-on-one.
Back to School night is also a great opportunity to meet and network with other parents and get involved with your PTAs. Representatives will be on hand at each of the schools. In addition, the Montclair Education Association also has welcome tables set up at with educational brochures and giveaways.
