What should I do if my child is having a problem in school and talking to the teacher hasn’t helped?

AnswerIf a parent is not satisfied with a response from the teacher he or she should contact the building principal. The process for parent communication is spelled out in the ‘Guide to Navigating the School System’ flyer provided to parents at the beginning of the school year.

Does the district accept tuition students?

AnswerNo. Due to the number of Montclair residents whose children will be enrolling in the public schools, and the classroom space available, tuition students will not be accepted at this time.

In the event of a delayed school opening, what should I do?

AnswerChildren should be brought to their usual bus stop two hours after the usual time. Buses will run as usual in the event of a delayed school opening. Parents may also drop their children off at school. If your child’s school normally opens at 9:00 a.m., for example, the delayed opening would be at 11:00.

How can I get more information about the school district?

AnswerIf you don’t find the information you’re looking for on this website, the Board of Education building at 22 Valley Road is open between 8 a.m. and 4:15 p.m. Monday through Friday during the school year. In July and August, the building is open Monday through Thursday from 7:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The main number is (973) 509-4000. Forms, calendars, district policies, the current school budget, the district newsletter, a booklet about the Montclair magnet system, information about the federal No Child Left Behind Act and other printed materials are free and available to the public.
