Leslie Larson, who joined the Montclair Board of Education in 2009, previously served as a volunteer in the public schools, taking on a broad array of roles over 20 years.
She served on the PTA boards at Rand and Renaissance Schools for over 12 years, as the volunteer coordinator at Renaissance School for six years, as a Writer’s Room coach at both Glenfield School and at Montclair High, on the MHS Redesign Committee, on the World Literature Review Committee, as an IMANI volunteer, and as SVPA parent coordinator.
She is married to Don Katz, who served on the Montclair Public Library Board for nine years.
The mother of three students who have attended the Montclair Public Schools, Larson is a registered nurse who also holds a BA in psychology and social science. She has worked as head nurse in a psychiatric facility, as an oncology nurse at Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center, and as a childbirth education instructor (both professionally at St. Barnabas Medical Center and as a volunteer in Newark). Larson was also a producer of nationally televised commercials for five years.
