Arrival/Dismissal Procedures

Welcome to Edgemont School! Our school hours are 8:20 a.m. to 2:35 p.m. Students may begin entering the school grounds and building at 8:15 a.m. BUSSED STUDENTS are the only students who may arrive, and stand on line or in the gym prior to the start of the school day. Before-Care students may report to the Extended Care Room at 7:30 a.m. to ensure a smooth and safe transition into the new school year, please note the following information.

  1. On the first day of school, all classroom teachers identify, and confim each student's dismissal routine - whether BUSSED, PARENT/CAREGIVER WALKER, INDEPENDENT WALKER, EXTENDED CARE, AFTER SCHOOL ENRICHMENT, TUTORIAL, etc. Please put IN WRITING any changes to you child's dismissal routine. While the teachers will ask for notes, please impress upon your children the importance of handing all communications to the teachers. Questions and concerns will be forwarded to the office and the office will contact the parent/caregiver in order to clarify and/or confirm the dismissal status.

  2. The office receives a print-out of all Bus Eligible students. HOWEVER, if you have other dismissal plans, please notify your child's teacher IN WRITING. Often on the first day of school, parents decide to pick up their children as a special treat. If you plan to deviate from the established routine, please let you child's teacher know IN WRITING.

  3. The office also receives a print-out of all Extended Care students from the YMCA. We always, however, appreciate a headws-up IN WRITING - especially if you sign up for Extended Care on the first day of school.

  4. Following the End of Day/Prepare for Dismissal announcement, students are required to sit quietly and patiently as the various modes of dismissal are announced.

Bussed students are dismissed by Bus Name through the center hall, main entrance. (Please help us keep the entrance and front steps clear unless you are specifically coming into the main office.)

Walkers are dismissed at 2:35. Unless bussed, Kindergarten students are "handed-over" by staff to a family-designated adult on the Gym Door side of the building. Walkers from rooms 2, 5, 105, 106 and 107 exit through the LIBRARY DOOR side of the building. Walkers from rooms 8, 13, 14, 103, 109 and 110 exit through the GYM DOOR side of the building. Please meet your children in those areas.

Extended care students are dismissed to the Extended Care program where attendance is checked by the YMCA staff. Extended Care students are verified prior to the Bus Announcement.

  5. Parking: When dropping off or picking up your children, please pull all the way around the circle so that the flow of street traffice is not hampered and others may enter the driveway. Please DO NOT PARK in front of the school on the school side nor on the lawns and sidewalks of neighboring houses.

We need your help and cooperation in order to ensure a SAFE experience for your children - our students - during morning arrivals and afternoon dismissals! PLEASE DO NOT PARK ON THE SCHOOL SIDE OF THE STREET NOR IN THE SCHOOL'S DRIVEWAY!!! Doing so places our students at risk. Also, when parked on the park side of the street (which is okay), it is recommended that you do NOT permit your children to enter or exit your vehicle from the street.

  6. Every effort is made to provide a safe, orderly and predictable arrival and dismissal routine. All staff and faculty participate and share in the process. We thank you for your cooperation and assistance.
