Hispanic Heritage Celebration 2013
Glenfield Middle School
In celebration of the Hispanic Heritage Month, the World Language Department hosted a cultural day to increase awareness of the positive contributions of the Hispanic community. Our students had the opportunity to experience four different Hispanic professionals talk to them. They spoke about their Hispanic background, the influences of their language and culture in their careers and their lives in the United States. Our distinguished guests included: Dr. Blaustein, who talked about his homeland, Argentina and his experience as a medical doctor in the United States. Mrs. Angela Crawford related her experiences as an immigrant from Colombia and the use of the Spanish language in her career as a paralegal. Ms. Erica Hernandez talked to us about her heritage as a Cuban-American and her use of Spanish in her even planning business.
We were also lucky to hear from our own, Mr. Céspedes, who shared his journey from Cuba to the United States. He explained all the details to our students on how he and his family escaped on a boat from the communist island.
We want to thank our guests and Mr. Céspedes for taking the time from their busy careers to share their valuable experiences with our students.
