Bradford Engages in Acts of Kindness
Monday, January 29, 2018
The Great Kindness Challenge is a nationwide program that encourages students to complete random acts of kindness from Jan. 22-26 and beyond. Bradford students (and staff) engaged in the challenge last week with activities including starting each day with a “Kindness Quote of the Day.” Each student received a kindness checklist and attempted to complete as many of the activities as possible each day. Students also created a “Kindness Mailbox” in each classroom where they left positive messages and compliments for one another.
Everyone in the school signed a “Kindness Pledge,” read books about kindness, developed a “Kindness Slogan” for their classroom, and participated in writing and art activities related to the concept of kindness. Staff members also took up the challenge of demonstrating kindness as much as possible; a bulletin board in the school office highlights “Staff Shout Outs” so teachers could be recognized for exemplary teaching or acts of kindness. Principal Naomi Kirkman shared with parents a recent New York Times article highlighting the importance of teaching kindness.
