In order to promote positive behavior and good citizenship, Nishuane School is again participating in its annual Kindness and Justice Challenge. Since December 4, students have been earning paper links for every act of kindness, respect, and justice they perform. The links will be collected, counted, and assembled on January 5 in order to make a chain around the auditorium. The challenge will culminate with the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Assembly on January 12. At the assembly, classes will showcase performances around the topic of peace, and the grand total of links earned will be announced.

Throughout the program, classes will conduct activities and games that build character and promote positive socialization skills. Topics of the lessons include following rules, empathy, bullying, respect, acceptance, friendship, helping, and justice and fairness. Nishuane will also take part in a whole-school “Read-In,” in which classes will partner to read and discuss books that promote kindness and justice.

Nishuane School will be taking part in a day of service on January 15, as well as in the Crayola Initiative in order to give back to the community. The Crayola Initiative remanufactures crayons and sends them to children’s hospitals.
