Northeast Elementary School held its 15th Annual Geography Bee, Saturday, February 11. The goal of the Bee is to get ALL Northeast students and their families excited about geography and the world around us and is especially designed so that even our youngest students can participate. This year there were 50 teams competing for two amazing prizes.
This year’s K-2 champions were the Assuntino All Stars, and the 3-5 Champions were the Greek Geo Gods.
The winning Grades 3-5 team of this year’s Bee earned the opportunity to be escorted by limousine to enjoy a “behind the scenes” tour of the Lionel Pincus and Princess Firyal Map Division at the New York Public Library. The winners will be able to work as Citizen Cartographers for the day before enjoying a NYC lunch and riding back to school in style. The winning Grades K-2 team gets to enjoy lunch with Principal Gail Clarke.
“Northeast Elementary School is so proud of our winners and all the amazing kids that studied and participated,” said co-presidents Soo Najarian and Itewari Bryan.
“Special thanks goes to our incredible GeoBee Chair Julie Clemens, our fabulous emcee Matt Knutzen, our celebrity judges and facilitators, teachers and staff, and Principal Clarke!” they added. “Also special thanks to the GeoBee committee and all the wonderful volunteers who made the day such a success.”
