The New Jersey Student Learning Standards — Science
The New Jersey Student Learning Standards—Science (NJSLS-S) replaced the New Jersey Core Curriculum Content Standards in Science (NJCCS—Science). The NJSLS-S are based on the Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS), and have been phased into adoption for New Jersey K-8 school districts within the last two years. Our school district curriculum and resources follow the NGSS and are aligned to NJSLS-S.
In addition to new standards, a new assessment will measure the NJSLS-S. This assessment replaces the NJASK—Science, which was given to grades 4 and 8. The new assessment will assess students in grades 5 and 8, as these are considered more accurate grade bands to check for understanding of science concepts.
