Hello Parents and Guardians!

Welcome to the Academy Summer Boot Camp for middle school-aged students.  My name is Andrew Evangelista, the Montclair School District’s Mental Health and HIB Coordinator, and a therapist for 40 years. The boot camp will provide a structured, fun, and activity filled week where your children will learn about; team building, journaling, improving self- image, internet safety and cyberbullying, how to deal with mental health issues as well as issues facing our teens today. Your children will learn about the dangers of alcohol, drugs, smoking, and vaping. Children will also learn about ways to handle stress and respecting themselves and others. These topics will be explored through group and individual exercises such as: mindfulness, yoga techniques, discussion and activities with counselors and peers.

Two sessions- I and II. Week at a glance: Each day, your child will be introduced to journaling and activities to help them deal with the social emotional issues that middle school students will be facing with their peers, siblings and families. The boot camp is just a theme, to help them with structured and experiential activities for 3 hours a day, from 9- 12 noon.

Allergies/sensitivities: Please provide us with any and all information regarding medical and allergies. Weather permitting we will be in Glenfield Park with activities and fresh air.

Lunch: Students can bring snack(s)/lunch and a labeled bottle of water to camp every day. It can get hot, especially when we go outside, so multiple bottles of water on a daily basis are encouraged.  Lunch and snacks are not provided.

Additional activities: The team building activities and some group experiences will require students to wear comfortable clothing and sneakers.  There will be some physical movement as well as journaling and experiential sharing and learning in a group setting. There will be a limited number of campers so it’s best to sign up as soon as possible.

I look forward to meeting your child!
