9th Grade Orientation
Welcome from Ms. Gilbert
Dear Parents, Guardians, and Incoming Ninth Grade Students:
Welcome to the Ninth Grade Academy!
In a few weeks we will begin another exciting year at Montclair High School (MHS). For the Class of 2018, your high school experience is about to begin. Our sincere hope is that your time in high school will be productive, enjoyable, and rewarding. There will be many opportunities for academic and social growth during your four years here at MHS. We encourage you to take full advantage of our many extra-curricular, social, and academic offerings.
NGA — A Small Learning Community
The Ninth Grade Academy (NGA) is a small learning community within the larger context of MHS. Our goal is to create a friendly and caring learning environment where every student feels valued and supported while being challenged academically. Our teachers and staff work toward instilling a culture of respect and an atmosphere of pride throughout our school environment. Our entire NGA team looks forward to welcoming you to our community.
Each year the NGA has a Freshman Orientation before school begins. This year the orientation (for both students and parents), will take place in the Main Building Auditorium. Check-in is at 8:30 am and the program will run from 9am to 12pm. Students with the last names from A to K should report on August 26, and students with last namesfrom L to Z should report on August 27. If you are unable to attend your assigned date then you may attend the alternate session. We will start with a general session for both students and parents, followed by the student portion of the orientation facilitated by our Senior Mentors. The orientation is designed to familiarize students with the high school while introducing them to the basic goals and philosophies of the NGA. Students will receive updated schedules, tour the building, locate their homeroom, learn about Skyward, and get information about the library and computer centers. Students will also have a chance to ask their mentors any questions they might have about MHS. Student ID pictures will be taken immediately after orientation (12-2pm). Parents will also have the opportunity for a question and answer session with administration and a tour of the high school.
Parent Orientation Evening
I look forward to meeting you at our August orientation. In the event you cannot attend any of these sessions, there will also be an evening Parent Orientation on September 9th, 2014 from 6:30pm to 8:30pm in the Main Auditorium, that will cover most of the same material. If I can be of any assistance, please don’t hesitate to call or e-mail me. I can be reached at 973-509-4004 ext. 2615 or at email@example.com.
