Allison Silverstein
was raised in Middlesex County, New Jersey where she graduated from public high school.  She attended Rutgers University where she received her B.S. in Administration of Justice in 1998.  From there, Allison moved to Boston to attend law school at Boston University.  After receiving her Juris Doctor in 2001, Allison returned to the Tri-State area and began her career in civil litigation.  She has worked at various positions in New York, Michigan and New Jersey, eventually settling into her current position where she has worked for over 11 years. Throughout her career, Allison has always looked to use her free time to volunteer and give back to her community.

Allison and her husband moved to Montclair in December 2009.  Having grown up in a smaller suburb, Allison enjoyed all the services, retail, culture, and community support that Montclair had to offer. They still live in the same home they purchased in the 3rd Ward, which they now share with their son (Class of 2029) and daughter (Class of 2031). Allison’s son has received special education and related services through the Montclair Public Schools since age three.  Over the last five years, Allison has held leadership positions in various parent organizations, including the Nishuane PTA, School Action Team for Partnership, Montclair Special Education Parents Advisory Council (SEPAC) and Montclair PTA Council (PTAC).

Allison advocates for acceptance, understanding, inclusion and quality education for all children.  She believes in hard work, continued learning, supporting one another, and giving back to her community.  While she has an interest in further improving in-district special education, she brings with her compassion for all children and a desire to further support all underserved students in Montclair to make sure they all have the tools and support they need to succeed.  She provides to the Board an additional parent and special education perspective.  Allison looks forward to getting to work and serving her community.
