New Year Message

Dear Montclair Public School Families,

I hope you had a wonderful winter break! I am looking forward to seeing our students, staff, and families around the schools as we enter the New Year. Lots of teaching and learning is on the horizon, and we will keep you posted of any new activities and initiatives as they arise. Whether this is your first student or you are a long-time parent/guardian of many Montclair students, I welcome your thoughts and concerns as we value each and every one of our students and remain dedicated to ensuring you have a positive experience.

Attending school involves more than academics. Please know we are concerned for our students' health, welfare, and safety.  With that being said, we appreciate your partnering with us and reminding your children to be aware of their surroundings, especially while traveling to and from school. Please know that we do not want your children to be fearful, but we want them to recognize a dangerous or uncomfortable situation and be able to trust their instincts. They should never go anywhere, with anyone, without asking for permission from you. They should never approach an unknown vehicle or get into a vehicle if offered a ride or a treat. If approached, teach them to immediately tell a trusted adult and run away from the danger.

For your consideration, one of Buzz Aldrin Middle School students experienced a potential luring during the morning on January 2, 2019. Due to the wise thinking from the student and her parents, a potential luring was avoided. A special thank you is extended to our outstanding Montclair Police Department for its commitment to our community's safety and increasing morning patrols at Buzz Aldrin Middle School bus stops. We care about all of our students and will always keep their wellbeing front and center.

Best wishes for an amazing 2019!

With excellence, equity, social justice and access,
Dr. Kendra Johnson, Superintendent
