Absences:
If your child or children will be absent, please call the main office @ 973-509-4259, leave a message on the attendance line, include the reason for the absence and estimated time your child will be absent.
Illness/Health Status Changes:
If your child is experiencing any change in their medical status or has been newly diagnosed with asthma, food allergies, or any other acute or chronic condition, please inform the school nurse.
Injuries:
Injuries such as fractures, stitches etc. must also be reported to the school nurse and accompanied by a note from the doctor/health care provider stating any restrictions for gym and recess. Crutches, casts, splints or orthopedic boots require consent.

Health Screenings:
Students are screened for height, weight, blood pressure, vision, and hearing according to New Jersey Department of Education guidelines as follows:
• Vision: K, 2nd, and 4th grades.
• Hearing: K-3rd grades.
• Scoliosis: 5th grade
• Height/Weight/Blood pressure: all grades
Parents are notified about any abnormalities if needed.
Medications:
Medication cannot be given in school without a written prescription from the doctor/health care provider, and written permission from the parent/guardian. This applies to both prescription and over the counter medications. Students are not permitted to carry medicine without a physician’s order. An adult must bring all medications to the health office, in original, labeled container.

Incoming Students:
Pre-School, Kindergarten and for those students transferring from another school district must have up-to-date immunization and physical examination (within the calendar year) on the Universal Health Form and it must be provided within 30 days from the date of entry to prevent exclusion.

*Medical Form Physicals are also recommended for students entering 6th grade.
When to Keep Your Child Home:
• Elevated temperature (100 degrees or more).
*Your child should remain home until fever-free for 24 hours without acetaminophen or ibuprofen.
• Vomiting and/or diarrhea
*Your child must remain home until vomiting and/or diarrhea has stopped for 24 hours and food is tolerated.
• Any contagious illness (strep throat, persistent cough, unidentified rash, etc.) that could infect others, distract your child or disrupt the class.
*Physician's note will be needed to return.

Head Lice are usually not difficult to eliminate when early identification is made. Please inform the school nurse if you do find head lice/nits.
