A Festival of Optimism and Resilience

A Festival of Optimism and Resilience

The first annual BOUNCE Festival (May 31-June 7, 2019) is a collaboration of the YMCA of Montclair and Toni’s Kitchen, featuring events and experiences in the community to promote everyday opportunities to build emotional health and resilience.

Schools and community organizations play a vital part in the emotional development of younger children including the development of skills to help cope with everyday stressors. We would love to celebrate your role as part of two community-wide projects.

Planting a Happy Flag garden at your school/organization.

Plant flags decorated by the children with symbols and/or words that represent things, people, places or experiences that make them feel happy. Plant your garden by May 31st so the rest of the community can enjoy the Happy Flag Gardens throughout the week of the Festival.

BOUNCE will provide raw materials for the Happy Flags by the first week of May, and they can be decorated as creatively as the imagination allows, as long as they incorporate the Festival theme.

Participating in the Happy Mapping Montclair project.
Happy Mapping Montclair will highlight public spaces around town where residents find joy or comfort - their “happy place.” BOUNCE will provide postcards for children let us know their “happy places” in and around town. We will collect the information (along with residents of all ages) and use it to create the Montclair Happy Map. The due date for collection of postcards is May 1st so the Happy Map can be made before the Festival.

If you would like to participate in one or both ways, please reply by Friday, April 5th to ensure there is time to secure and distribute supplies.  We are excited to work with you! If you have any questions, contact us at the email addresses and telephone numbers below.
