Assistant Groundskeeper

JOB DESCRIPTION

Position Title: Assistant Groundskeeper
Qualifications:
1. Certification as a state pesticide applicator within one year of employment
2. Ability to serve as a role model for students
3. Demonstrated aptitude, knowledge and competence for performance responsibilities
4. Ability to lift and carry 60 lb bags of materials on and off vehicles or work sites
5. Ability to work on site during the hours required
6. Required criminal background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal alien status
7. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate and acceptable.

Responsible to:Director of Buildings and Grounds

Job Goal: To provide students, staff and the community with an attractive and safe, natural environment in which to learn, compete and relax.

Performance Responsibilities:
1. Maintain and care for school grounds;
2.  Prepare seeding or transplanting beds by cultivating soil and adding fertilizer or chemicals, if needed;
3. Plant and prune seeds, bulbs, seedlings and shrubs so that resulting growth will produce attractive appearances;
4. Inspect flowers, shrubs and trees for evidence of insects, fungi and other pests and use appropriate means to correct problem;
5. Assist with snow removal, sanding and other emergency duties when needed; 6.  Collect and dispose of leaves and refuse in a legal manner;
7. Adjust and repair such equipment as mowers, spreaders, sprinklers, shears and pruning devices;
8. Operate board equipment and vehicles as needed or required;
9. Comply with all board of education, federal and state safety rules and regulations;
10. Maintain positive relationships with the building administration, parents, other staff and students in the buildings;
11. Assume other related responsibilities and duties within the context of the above performance responsibilities.

Terms of Employment: 12 month, salary and benefits as negotiated by the MEA.

Evaluation: Performance of this job will be evaluated annually in accordance with the Board's policy on evaluation of non-certified staff.
