PARCC Update

Dear MPS Families,

The New Jersey Department of Education (NJDOE) has informed districts of changes to the Partnership Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers (PARCC) which have been made as detailed below and linked at the bottom of this page:

  1. Name change from PARCC to NJSLA-ELA (New Jersey Student Learning Assessments-ELA) and NJSLA-M (New Jersey Student Learning Assessments-Mathematics)
  2. Units/Time for testing reduced – See actual number of units and testing times in the NJDOE Memo.
  3. Proposed Graduation policy changes
  1. Proposal for Standards and Assessment
  2. Class of 2021+ will have the same menu of options as class of 2020 and below
  3. “A student must be remediated in and be offered the opportunity to retake ELA 10 and/or Algebra I (including during the summer)”

In response to these changes, our District will continue to support schooling with the least disruptions to instruction and will not administer Fall Block testing for PARCC/NJSLA-ELA and/or NJSLA-M.  We recognize there may be some students who need to take PARCC/NJSLA in order to graduate in 2020.  Thus, in addition to Spring testing, we will continue to provide PARCC/NJSLA-ELA and Mathematics testing in the summer during the first week of August (Algebra 1 and ELA 10).  Students will need to take an Algebra or ELA 10 prepatory class prior to the test.  More details about Summer PARCC/NJSLA will be forthcoming once the NJDOE reveals the final revisions to graduation assessment requirements.

The information contained in this communication reflects the most recent and up-to-date modifications received from the NJDOE.  To that end,  we will continue to keep you apprised of all NJDOE assessment changes as soon as anything new is released.  You have our commitment to continue providing timely communications regarding NJDOE graduation requirements.

Dr. Kendra Johnnson,

NJDOE Oct. 5 Memo.
