At its January 8, 2020 meeting, the Montclair Board of Education voted to enter into an agreement with the New Jersey School Boards Association (NJSBA) to assist with the formal search for a permanent Superintendent for the district. In addition, NJSBA is also being contracted to conduct a strategic planning process for the district in anticipation of new leadership. Board President Eve Robinson said, “The search process and selection of a new district leader is very important for the future of our community and the most important job that Board members undertake. Each Board member is committed to working collaboratively on every step of the process so that the ultimate decision will be one that reflects the goals of the Board of Education and the Montclair community.”

Next month, the Board of Education will host a series of critical issues public input sessions to gather information to set criteria for the background, training and experience necessary for the new Superintendent of Schools:

Monday, February 10, 2020*
4 pm, Charles H. Bullock School

Monday, February 10, 2020*
7:30 pm, Northeast School

Wednesday, February 12, 2020*
10 am, District Office, 22 Valley Road

*Snow date only
Wednesday, February 26, 2020

Time TBD, George Inness Annex Atrium

NJSBA search consultant Charlene Peterson will be on hand to explain the search process; the roles played by the Board, staff and community in the process; and the timeline for the search.

Input discussion will center on the district’s strengths, concerns, and identification of important leadership styles and professional characteristics for a new Superintendent. Information gathered, together with input from other focus groups, will be used to shape a variety of candidate review documents and the interview questions.

The Board of Education values the voices of the entire school community and encourages all to attend one of these important sessions.

Information regarding community input sessions for the strategic planning process will be announced in March. For more information please contact the Board Office at 973-509-4010.
