The Montclair Board of Education passed a resolution at its August 17, 2020 Board Meeting condemning racism and confirming its commitment to an inclusive environment for all.

The resolution, in part, states that the Board and the Montclair Public Schools staff are “saddened and outraged by the recent events that demonstrate the racism and injustice that persists in our country.”

It continues, “racism and hate have no place in our schools or our society, and we must protect the constitutional rights of every person who lives, works, and learns, in our community; and racial inequality and bias-both explicit and implicit-have a detrimental impact on the education of Black Students, Students of Color, and Others.”

The Board stated in the resolution that it will ensure “that our school district will be a place of safety in our community for our students and their families, as we build and strengthen trust with those we serve, and we model the acceptance of all people.”

With that, the Board members of the Montclair Board of Education, “stand steadfast in our commitment to foster an inclusive educational environment where every student, teacher, support professional, administrator, parent/caregiver, and community member is treated with dignity and respect, as well as our commitment to continue fighting for racial justice, human and civil rights for all.”
