District-Wide Family Night Wed., Oct. 26

The Montclair Public Schools is offering families a night “off. In conjunction with the PTA, Wednesday, Oct. 26 has been designated “Family Night for all in the district. With academics and athletics in full-swing, Family Night is an ideal opportunity to take a break from the busy day-to-day routine.

There will be no after-school events, activities or athletic contests and teachers will not assign homework or schedule a test the next day so that families may spend quality time together. (Montclair High School and Middle School sports and performing arts may practice until 6 pm.)

Several years ago, then-Bullock PTA president Mary Emanuelli proposed the idea to the PTA Council as a way to “relieve some of the after school and evening obligations so families can all eat together, she said at the inception.

“Family Night is a great opportunity for our families to spend quality time together, said PTA Council president Diane Anglin. “For our district to support this effort with a homework-free night, shows a great commitment to our students, families and the community.

District parent Jennifer McMillan said her family is looking forward to the night off. "It's a great mid-week break, when we can, as a family, take a few more minutes over dinner to talk, or hang out together in the evening and watch TV or walk our dogs, without worrying about homework. I wish we had family nights more often!"
