District Mourns Passing of Dr. Alfred Davis, Jr.
Posted on 12/03/2021

It is with profound sadness that we write to inform you of the passing of our Board Member, Dr. Alfred Davis, Jr. He was a staunch supporter of Montclair Public Schools and public education. We valued his service on our Board as he always provided thoughtful, astute assessment of the district’s governance and policy work and his contributions as part of the Board were highly respected. For those of you who may not be familiar with his commitment to our community, he served through his medical practice, his many dedicated years as founding member of the Montclair African-American Heritage Foundation along with its parade and festival beloved by all, as well as being the Board’s liaison for the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Scholarship Breakfast. We will personally and professionally miss his sage advice, quiet and confident manner, and gracious nature. Dr. Davis provided insight and wisdom until the end. His character was beyond reproach and everything he did during his service to our schools was for the betterment of our students. He will be sorely missed, and we extend our deepest condolences to his family at this difficult time.
