Eco Action Week At Bullock

Bullock students, staff and families came together for the school’s first Eco Action Week, December 2-6, turning the Environmental Science Classroom into a recycled-paper-making factory.

“The excitement and energy was palpable as soon as I walked into the Environmental Science Classroom,” said Bullock Principal Nami Kuwabara. “Students, staff and parents were all engaged in hands-on activities that brought their learning to life.”

Through the leadership of Bullock’s environmental science teacher Jennifer Woschinko, students collaborated with families to make paper from recycled materials, helping bring the Bullock school community closer together and deepen everyone's understanding of recycling and sustainable practices. Students also participated in STEM challenges, such as Marsh Madness, where they designed houses in a wetland without disturbing animal habitats, or Timber Towers, where students helped birds survive habitat destruction and wildfires by building a sustainable forest.

“Eco Action week was such an incredible experience,” said Bullock parent Jill Vengerik. “We loved how it engaged our children in real-world environmental issues while making learning exciting.”

Shelby Ebert, another Bullock parent, added, “It was amazing to see how the activities connected to the principles of environmental science, and to join in on the fun with our children.”

Students shared with Ms. Woschinko that the Eco Action Week was one of the best activities they’ve had at Bullock. “They told me they loved getting messy, learning how to make paper, and being with all their friends, and having fun exploring at the different stations.”

Bullock, the District’s Environmental Science Magnet Elementary School, will have several Eco Action Weeks throughout the year, providing students, staff and families with hands-on experiences supporting environmental stewardship. CHB’s mission is to empower students to become problem solvers, who protect and care for the planet, themselves, and each other.
