From Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter Discussion

From Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter, a Community Conversation featuring a panel of educators and racial justice activists, hosted by Restorative Justice Montclair (RJM), will take place via Zoom on Tuesday, June 30 from 4 to 6 p.m. The conversation is open to the community at large; details to join are below.

 
“This is an exploration of how two powerful movements - Black Lives Matter and  the Civil Rights Movement – revolutionize our world.” said Gayl Shepard, Restorative Justice Coordinator.  “Knowledge is power, and with a greater understanding of both movements, we can continue our advocacy for racial and social justice.”

 

Syreeta Carrington, Restorative Justice Montclair team member, will be the moderator for From Civil Rights to Black Lives Matter.

The Panelists:


· MaryAnn Cool - retired educator, racial justice activist
· Zachary Parker - educational equity advocate, educator, Washington DC Board of Ed
· Danielle Pearman - Montclair High School alumna, television producer for the Food Network
· Petal Robertson - educator, Montclair Education Association President
· Junius Williams, Esq. - historian, Senior Research Fellow for the Center for Economic Policy and Research, racial justice activist
· Mayida Zaal - educator/teacher/activist/researcher and parent of a child in the Montclair Public School District

 
This is the fourth MEA Community Conversation exploring racial justice and the second one hosted by Restorative Justice Montclair, with approximately 200 participants on average.
