MPS Partner to Provide School Supplies

Montclair’s Sentinels Sixteen-87 hosted its 11th Annual Free School Supplies event on Sun., August 19 in Glenfield Park. Montclair families with their children were able to pick up free book bags, enjoy games, food and even get free back-to-school haircuts. The Montclair Public Schools partnered with the Sentinels to supply the contents of the book bags filled with notebooks, pencils, pens and more and members of the MPS staff were on hand to answer parents’ questions and provide information.

The event was organized by retired Montclair police Lieutenant Kim Nelson-Edwards who created the school supplies giveaway through the Sentinels, Montclair’s Minority Police Officer Association.

In addition to MPS, other co-sponsors included Montclair FOP #126, Montclair NAACP, Renee Baskerville 4th Ward Collaborative, Montclair Neighborhood Development Corp. (MNDC), Montclair Education Association, Montclair Alumnae Chapter - Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., Craftsman Club of Eureka Lodge #52, Montclair Police Athletic League, Brother to Brother, Montclair Cobras Junior Program, Omicron Xi Omega Chapter -Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc., Montclair Police Benevolent Association (PBA) Local #53, and Comcast Cable.
