Montclair High School received an Award of Excellence from the New Jersey State Interscholastic Athletics Association (NJSIAA) for “Exemplary Display of Sportsmanship, Ethics and Integrity,” for the 2021-2022 school year. “Montclair High School’s commitment to sportsmanship, ethics and integrity is to be commended,” said the letter from NJSIAA Executive Director Colleen E. McGuire. “Sportsmanship is a fundamental principle of education-based interscholastic athletics.”

A certificate was presented to the High School on behalf of the NJSIAA, Board of Directors of the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and the NFHS Student Services Committee.

“This award is a reflection of the hard work our students and coaches put into competing for Montclair High School,” said MHS Athletic Director Patrick Scarpello. “Our coaches do a tremendous job teaching the students how to compete at their highest potential while never losing sight of good sportsmanship. As the athletic director, I could not be more proud of our student-athletes and coaches.”

“At Montclair High School, we believe that sportsmanship provides our student athletes with opportunities for growth and allows for our students to be successful in sports, in the classroom and most importantly in life,” added MHS Principal Jeffrey Freeman. “This award is a testament to our student athletes and our coaches and the value they place on the importance of good sportsmanship.”
