MHS World Language Students Excel on Exams

Spanish
Ninety-two world language students from Montclair High School attained national recognition for excellent performance on the 2019 National Spanish Examinations.

MHS students earned a total of two gold, twelve silver and fifteen bronze awards along with 53 honorable mentions. “Attaining a medal or honorable mention for any student on the National Spanish Examinations is very prestigious,” said Kevin Cessna-Buscemi, National Director of the Exams, “because the exams are the largest of their kind in the United States with nearly 150,000 students participating in 2019.”

Students from Montclair High School have a long history of high achievement on these exams. This year’s participants are the students of María González-Block, Silvia Jankowski, Ikenna Okaome, Monica Lavosky, Beatriz Romero and Maribel Tarrillo.

The National Spanish Examinations are administered each year in grades six through twelve, and are sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese.

French
The following 46 Montclair High School students have ranked nationally in the 84th annual event, according to Lisa Narug, National Director of Le Grand Concours. Le Grand Concours is a national competition sponsored by the American Association of Teachers of French. Students were evaluated for their written, oral and listening comprehension skills in French. More than 72,000 students in all 50 states competed in the 2019 event. The following students are students of Mrs. Gaëlle Cahayla and Miss Olivia Filip.
