On Thursday, April 20, more than 200 middle school students acted as delegates to the Middle School Model United Nations Conference at Montclair High School. MidMUNC provides students with the chance to write, discuss, and debate mock resolutions, such as member countries of the United Nations would.

The goal is to enhance political awareness and responsible citizenship through the study and debate of global political issues in an intellectual setting. MidMUNC is designed to help delegates develop expertise in a specific legislative area as well as expose them to a broad array of international issues.

Middle School Social Studies teachers acted as advisors and helped prepare the delegates for the conference. Students put in many hours of hard work and were dedicated to researching their countries, analyzing resolutions, and preparing their position papers.

Glenfield teacher Dan Gill (pictured below) was awarded the first ever “Distinguished Advisor” award in recognition of a lifetime commitment to Montclair Public Schools and his contributions to the annual Middle School Model Congress and Model United Nations conferences.
