Montclair Students are Poster Contest Winners

Charles H. Bullock School and Watchung School students are among the Top 15 winners in the 2023 “My Essex County” 4th Grade Poster Contest.

Essex County Clerk, Christopher J. Durkin, honored the Top 15 Winners of the 2023 “My Essex County” 4th Grade Poster Contest at a Ceremony taking place at the new Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Justice Building in Newark, NJ. Among the Top 15 Winners were Montclair students, (below, front from left): Edith Francis Murphy from Watchung School; Carolina J. Cowart from Watchung School who was also the First Place Winner; Rose Inyang from Charles H. Bullock School (pictured with Essex County Deputy Clerk Garnet R. Hall (l) and Durkin.

Each student’s artwork was displayed at the ceremony and each of the Top 15 winners received a medal with their name engraved on the back, a framed certificate, a t-shirt, goody bag, and an opportunity to talk about their poster and what inspired them to create their unique artwork. The Top 15 winners will have their posters displayed in the “My Essex County” 4th Grade Poster Contest 15 Month Calendar. In addition, the Top 3 Winners will have their posters featured on the cover of the 2024 Municipal Guide.

There were 1,128 posters entered from students attending 43 elementary schools throughout Essex County. The contest celebrates County Government Week in April and inspires 4th grade students to learn about the history, the people, and the beauty of Essex County.
