Middle Schoolers Design Logos for Township

To kick off Montclair’s 150th anniversary, the township held a contest for local middle school students to design the logo for the municipality’s celebration next year.

The township will be using the logo on materials related to the celebration such as posters, T-shirts, letterheads and other items, according to Municipal Clerk Linda Wanat, who is part of the committee organizing events for the anniversary. Art teachers at all three middle schools embraced the project enthusiastically.

At the Dec. 19 Township Council meeting, the winner of the contest was announced. Out of 209 entries, the first place winner was Dylan Baddeley, a Glenfield School 7th grader. Odalys Jimenez, another Glenfield 7th grader, and Sofia Abrahamson, a Renaissance School 7th grader, both received honorable mentions for their designs. Glenfield art teachers Catherine Kondreck and Deb Comeau along with Renaissance art teacher Joyce Korotkin were on hand to support their students who were honored at the Jan. 10 Montclair Board of Education meeting.
