The Montclair Public Schools held an orientation for its new and non-tenured staff on Mon., Aug. 27 at the Furlong Field House.

Superintendent Kendra Johnson greeted the close to 50 new staff members to the district. “This is a very exciting day. This year we are launching a new slogan ‘Great by Design: We are #MontclairProud!’” she said.

“We will continue to embrace and support our teachers. We are always a collective voice here and we will encourage your input so we can continue to enhance our services to our stakeholders including yourselves, the principals, Central Office and parents/guardians so that our children are better served.”

Renaissance Principal Joseph Putrino, president of the Montclair Principals’ Association, also took the floor to offer his congratulations to the new staff and offer some words of wisdom. “I’ve been in education for 20 years and when September comes, even the most experienced educators feel nervous. The expectations are high. Do your best, be confident and compassionate and above all else, smile.”

Additionally, Tom Manos, representing the Montclair Education Association, welcomed the new staff and discussed the MEA’s services. To further acquaint and prepare staff with the district, Central Office representatives, including Personnel Director LaMonica McIver, Personnel Secretary for Pensions, Benefits, Health Ginger Mulhern, Business Administrator Emidio D’Andrea, Payroll Supervisor Beth Borowski, Interim Technology Director Alice Velez, and District Mental Health/HIB Coordinator Andrew Evangelista discussed the roles and responsibilities of their respective departments. The day concluded with a review of essential policies and a tour of Montclair.
