Montclair Township’s Director of Human Resources Alisha Dawkins initiated a Back-to School Drive the beginning of the month to benefit the Montclair Public Schools. She invited all municipal employees to donate schools supplies to give to Montclair students in need and the response was overwhelmingly positive. Items included backpacks, notebooks, crayons, pencils and more which will be organized and dispersed through the District’s Office of Operations and School Support Services.
“I didn’t care if I raised $100 or $5. I just wanted to do something. Teachers should be able to focus on educating students, not on whether children have the supplies they need,” said Dawkins. “My goal is to connect events like this between the Township and the community.”
Interim Superintendent Damen Cooper and Dr. Felice Harrison-Crawford, Assistant Superintendent for Operations and School Support Services were on hand to accept the donations on behalf of the District. “We have a growing population of students who are displaced or at high-risk, so donations like this are always beneficial and we are grateful for the support.”
