Welcome student artists and families! I am excited that you will be joining us for Summer Studio @ MHS's studio art program. You sure must love art & well, we do too! We are excited to move our camp to Montclair High School's art room this summer with the neighboring Metal Art & 3D Printing CAD Camp.
Our camp was designed to provide a fun, creative, and inspiring atmosphere where artists can share their love of art with other aspiring artists. No matter what level you enter at; a beginning artist or advanced, Summer Art Studio @ MHS only requires one thing - you to LOVE talking about and making art!
The day begins at 9 am with a short Art History jam and discussion where we look at the work of other artists for inspiration and to get our creative juices flowing. At 10 am, campers will enter studio time where they are led through an “art-ivity” that can be either drawing, painting, or printmaking! Our supply buffet table is always open for artists to pick and choose from markers, colored pencils, and even collage materials. We will break for lunch and outdoor time where artists can participate in a group activity or spend their time sketching in their sketchbooks. In the afternoon, students return to the studio on their second artmaking “art-ivity.” We end our art-filled day around 1:45 pm after clean-up.
Most importantly, every week, we will be taking a trip to a local art museum. We will be able to hunt for the artists we studied each morning and examine how artwork is curated and why certain works of art are preserved in museums for others to enjoy.
Camp fee includes a sketchbook, all supplies, and our weekly museum trips. You only need to remember your lunch, water, and a snack each day as well as a hat and proper footwear for outside (comfortable close-toe shoes are recommended).
I look forward to meeting you and seeing what we can create together. What better way to spend a week of your summer than with others who HEART ART like you!
Artfully yours,
Brienne Kvetkus, Camp Director
