Lynda Alves retired Friday after serving for 53 years in the District's Personnel Office. She is the longest-serving employee of Montclair Public Schools.
A Montclair native, Alves attended Hillside (when it was a K-8 school) and graduated from Montclair High School. After business school and a stint with a pharmaceutical company, she joined the Personnel Office in January 1970.
By the mid-70s she had become Executive Secretary to the Personnel Director, a position she held for the rest of her career. Known for her work ethic, easy sense of humor, and grace under fire, her career spanned 10 directors and 10 permanent superintendents.
"Lynda has anchored the Personnel Office with exemplary service for half a century," Superintendent Jonathan Ponds said. "She is admired and loved across the district. I wish her a wonderful retirement."
