Transportation office: 973-509-4020  x50609 or x50610

Transportation to and from school is available for students in the Montclair Public School District who meet the eligibility requirements. According to board policy, transportation will be provided for the following students:

  • All elementary school students who reside 1 mile or more from their assigned district school. Addresses falling within a radius of less than 1 mile will not be eligible.

  • All middle school students who reside 1 mile or more from their assigned district school. Addresses falling within a radius of less than1 mile will not be eligible.

  • All high school students who reside 2.25 miles or more from the district high school. Addresses falling within a radius of less than 2.25 mile will not be eligible.

Eligible students will be automatically assigned busing to and from the home address by the Transportation Office. Parents will be able to see their student's assignment on Genesis under the busing tab a week before school begins.

The AM and PM times indicated on bus assignments are best estimates of arrival. Your student(s) should be at their designated stop 10 minutes prior to their scheduled arrival time and allow up to 10 minutes after for the return stops.

Students are to be picked up and discharged at their assigned stops only; drivers are not allowed to relocate stops. Students cannot switch buses for playdates or practices, etc.

Students in grades K-5 MUST be escorted on and off the bus by a parent/guardian. If you prefer that your (K-5) student walks home from the bus stop unaccompanied by an adult, please submit the Permission to Walk form located on the website or from your school office. Once the form is submitted, please wait for confirmation of receipt from the Transportation Department.

Bus Stops and Routes cannot be changed. Any requests to do so will not be reviewed until after 11/1/23.

Alternate Transportation to or from a babysitter or daycare center is available, provided the following requirements are met:

  • The student must first be eligible for transportation from their home address.

  • All assignments are made on a 5 day a week basis. The students cannot receive alternate transportation any less than 5 days a week.

Alternate Address applications are available on the Montclair Public Schools website and in the Transportation Office. Once submitted, please allow up to two weeks for review / processing. The Transportation Office will follow up to let you know if the address is eligible and, if so, provide you with the alternate busing assignment.

Alternate assignments and subscription busing are voided at the end of each school year and must be resubmitted each year if necessary.

Bus Pass: We will be implementing a new “Bus Pass” policy for 2023-24. Those eligible for district busing will receive a Bus Pass that must be presented to the driver/aide when boarding. Thank you for your patience and cooperation as we implement this new policy.

Please note: The AM and PM times indicated on bus assignments are best estimates of arrival. Your student(s) should be at their designated stop 10 minutes prior to their scheduled arrival time and allow up to 10 minutes after for the return stops. All arrival times are subject to change as needed and may be adjusted throughout the first few weeks of school. Please make sure your contact information is updated on the Genesis Portal so that you receive text and or email messages from the Transportation Department.
