In 2015, MakerBot and Montclair partnered to establish the first district-wide network of desktop 3D printers, in each school, from the elementary to secondary level. Although existing 3D printing programs were in place in the schools, the collaboration served to offer more opportunities for students in every grade level. Previously, after-school workshops were only available in one middle school for 7th and 8th grade students as well as classes for 10th, 11th, and 12th grade STEM students during the school year. Through the partnership, Montclair has been able to provide a comprehensive 3D printing hands-on experience that allows students to begin in elementary school and continue learning all the way through high school.
MakerBot recently examined the progress the school district has enjoyed over the past two years through a case study feature and video. Both include a close-up look at how Montclair’s students, teachers and administrators are making the most out of this unique opportunity.
