Members of the Montclair community attended the first open meeting of the Board of Education (BOE) subcommittee on School Culture and Climate on Sun., Sept. 17 at the Charles H. Bullock School. The committee is tasked with exploring this important aspect for our schools with the goal of informing the district administration of the key elements of culture and climate on which they would like them to focus.

Topics include:

  • Engagement: including building relationships, respect for diversity and differences and welcoming school participation
  • Safety: including emotional and physical safety as well as the issues of substance use
  • Environment: including the physical, academic and health/wellness environment as well as approaches to discipline district wide

During the meeting, committee members presented materials and information which was followed by an open period for comments and input from attendees.
