School may be over, but class is still in session for Montclair Public Schools’ teachers and staff. The week of June 26, several school nurses and health teachers gathered to meet with district administrators to discuss the need for a cohesive K-12 sexual education health curriculum across all schools. “K-12 Sexual Health Curriculum Guide: Rights, Respect and Responsibility” is being developed and fine-tuned for approval by the Board of Education for implementation in the 2017-18 school year.
Elementary math teachers took time to reflect upon the math program and make adjustments for improvement. In 2016-17, a focus on fluency in specific basic facts was added to the curriculum which has been revised and will be available on the website shortly.
During the month of July, other committees will be meeting to revise the elementary science and ELA programs. A secondary ELA committee is revising curriculum for the middle and high school ELA courses.
