Charles H. Bullock School was awarded a $2,000 Sustainable Jersey for Schools capacity-building grant, funded by the PSEG Foundation. CHB received one of 30 $2,000 grants awarded at a ceremony on March 21 in Ewing, NJ.

“The Charles H. Bullock community is thrilled to receive the Sustainable Jersey for Schools grant, as it will be used to enhance our environmental magnet theme and our on-going efforts to improve all aspects of sustainability at our school,” said Principal Nami Kuwabara.

“Specifically, we will replace the disposable plastic ware currently used in our cafeteria, with reusable utensils, therefore reducing waste and our carbon footprint,” Kuwabara said. “We thank the PSEG Foundation for its generosity and providing the opportunity to use this grant as a teaching experience for all of our students: a simple change – using permanent utensils – will have a lasting effect to better our environment.”

An independent Blue Ribbon Selection Committee evaluated the grant proposals. The Sustainable Jersey for Schools grants are intended to help school districts and schools make progress toward a sustainable future in general, and specifically toward Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification. Bullock was among 59 schools that received Sustainable Jersey for Schools certification in 2015, the first year of the program.

About Sustainable Jersey for Schools

Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a certification program for public schools in New Jersey. Launched in October 2014, Sustainable Jersey for Schools is a program of Sustainable Jersey, a nonprofit, nonpartisan organization that provides tools, training and financial incentives to support and reward schools as they pursue sustainability programs. The process is one hundred percent voluntary and each school can choose whether it wants to get certified and the actions it wants to do in order to achieve enough points to get certified.
