The misty May morning didn't deter students on Monday May 2, when Montclair High school hosted the 11 th "Ray Spivey Middle School Track & Field Day" at Woodman Field in conjunction with the middle school Physical Education Departments, Jeff Gannon, Assistant Principal for Athletics and the respective administrators. This event allows the high school team to demonstrate their mastery of Track & Field as they become coaches, officials, clerks and meet management while fostering the development of the high school team. It's also an opportunity to build an interest in Track & Field at the high school level as many of participants have joined the team as freshman.
Each middle school brought the best of the best from their 7 th and 8 th grades to compete for the title of "Middle School Champ." Individual medals as well as a team trophy were awarded. Running events ranged from the 100 to 1600 meters and field events took place as well.
Each athlete received lunch and certificate of participation. "I am excited to continue the tradition of Track & Field in Montclair," said Sophia Wallace, Head Cross Country/Girls Track & Field Coach. "This is a day filled with fun and excitement for all the students."
