Montclair High School’s Model Congress Team traveled to Philadelphia March 28-31 to compete in the University of Pennsylvania Model Congress Conference. Not only did the team win an amazing 18 individual awards, Montclair High School won the top honor, Best Large Delegation.
The 28-member student team wrote bills and worked in simulated congressional committees to get their bills passed. They would then move on to large congressional sessions, debating as congress people and senators. Many of the team members won awards in their committees and some in the large session. The group also had a team who won best delegate while serving on a model Supreme Court.
“Winning Best Delegation is truly a team effort. It requires all members of the team to be stellar throughout the entirety of the weekend,” said advisors Tom Manos and Billy Wingrin. “There were nearly a thousand students from schools all over the United States. We could not be more proud of our MHS team.”
Added Director of Humanities K-12, Marcos Vargas, "Our students truly never cease to amaze! A hearty congratulations goes out to these stellar students, their incomparable teachers and administrators, and of course their advisors par excellence."
