March was Youth Art Month and here are the ways that Glenfield, the Visual and Performing Arts Magnet, participated in this Nationwide Art Advocacy Event:
Four seventh graders were selected to
have their artwork exhibited at the Hall of Records in Newark for the
entire month. A reception and recognition ceremony was held on March 21
where each artist received a certificate from the Essex County Executive
Joseph DiVincenzo.

Seventh grader June Goldberg’s artwork was chosen out of hundreds of pieces of art to be exhibited at the New Jersey Statehouse. A reception for the artists and their families was held on March 8 in Trenton. Goldberg received recognition and an award for her participation.
CI Art seventh grade students participated in a nationwide project called The Memory Project. Each student was paired up with a Syrian refugee child of whom they had the privilege of painting a portrait. Students learned about Syria and why many Syrians are fleeing. Their portraits are being delivered later this month and a video of their paired child receiving their portrait will be delivered to the school in the coming months.
