Montclair schools acknowledged Veterans Day with morning announcements and classroom activities and discussions saluting service men and women. Some schools participated in special activities to honor those who have served our country.
Buzz Aldrin Middle School world language/ESL teacher Stephanie Savoia engaged students in a special project in honor of Veteran’s Day on Mon., Nov. 11. “David Diederich is a gentleman who lives in a facility near my home. He is a World War II veteran who is celebrating his 102nd birthday,” said Savoia. “I thought it would be a great teachable moment and act of kindness to have my ESL students make cards and letters to send to him.”
Under the direction of music teacher, Shawn Dey, Northeast fifth grade Blue Hawks band members spent the day at Veterans Affairs Center in East Orange last Wednesday to celebrate and honor veterans. The students performed for veterans, toured the museum, and enjoyed lunch with the veterans and administrators from the VA facility.
Glenfield students from House Gill attended the Veteran's Day ceremony in Edgemont Park, where some of them sang at the celebration.
