The Social Studies Department at Glenfield (Scott Berman, Elizabeth Cario, Syreeta Carrington, Daniel Gill, Rich Groner, and Vincent Pelli) was privileged to attend a presentation by Jake Silverstein, Editor in Chief of the New York Times' 1619 Project. The 1619 Project has the goal of re-examining the legacy of slavery in the United States and is timed for the 400th anniversary of the arrival in America of the first enslaved people from West Africa. The Social Studies department aims to use the information gained from this presentation to continue to infuse the history of African Americans throughout the entire curriculum.
