Bullock’s fifth grade students were honored to have a visit on February 12 from Montclair’s 34th District State Senator, Nia Gill, who demonstrated how a bill becomes a law in the State of New Jersey.
The students gained additional knowledge through a hands-on activity introducing their own bill. The students’ bill provided that “all school days must end prior to 12 p.m. and all homework will be increased by 100% in exchange.”
Sponsored by Senator Gill and Bullock Principal Nami Kuwabara, the students’ bill was co-sponsored by “Senators” Jackie Mason, Riddy Khan, Yvette Torres, Kay Whang, Greg McGrath, Denea Kaup, and Judy Tirador (all Bullock fifth grade teachers).
“We greatly appreciate Senator Gill’s visit,” said Bullock Principal Nami Kuwabara. “The interactive lesson about the legislative process was an especially valuable learning experience for the fifth graders.”
