Montclair schools have been taking part in Read Across America activities. Launched in 1998 by the National Education Association (NEA), Read Across America is the nation's largest celebration of reading. What once focused on the birthday of Dr. Seuss, this now year-round program (highlighted in March, designated “National Reading Month”) focuses on motivating children and teens to read through events, partnerships, and reading resources that are about everyone, for everyone.

Here's just a glimpse of some of the fun activities that took place around the district.

Bradford students celebrated Read Across America with an emphasis on kindness. Students read Each Kindness, by Jacqueline Woodson, and spread kindness throughout the school. Ms. Freeh’s fourth graders held a kindness bookmark contest. Everyone took part in Crazy Sock Day and Crazy Color Day in honor of the book All the Colors of the Earth by Sheila Hamanaka and Wild Hair Day in honor of Maurice Sendak’s Where the Wild Things Are! Ms. Freeh’s class also held a "book tasting." Students were invited to an elegant restaurant where they could “taste” different genres/write short book reviews.
