Thirty-eight Montclair High School seniors have attained the New Jersey Seal of Biliteracy across eight languages. This was the Montclair Public Schools’ second year participating in the program. By language, twenty-six Seals were earned in Spanish, seven in French, two in Italian, two in Latin, one in Chinese, one in German, one in Japanese, and one in Portuguese. Three students earned the Seal in two languages.
The Seal of Biliteracy is an official recognition from the New Jersey Department of Education. The Seal is a nationally recognized credential that attests to each recipient’s unwavering dedication to proficiency and global citizenship. The Seal affirms that these seniors are prepared to utilize the language that they have acquired as they commence their post-secondary pursuits.
All recipients of the Seal have demonstrated Intermediate-Mid or higher proficiency in at least one language other than English and have fulfilled their English Language Arts graduation requirement. This year's recipients of the New Jersey Seal of Biliteracy were announced by Frank Sedita, Supervisor of World Languages & ESL K-12 during the virtual Montclair High School Senior Awards Program June 11.
