Dr. Morgan Named to Board of Trustees
Dr. Kalisha Morgan, who joined the district in July as the Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Curriculum and Instruction, was named as a Board of Trustee of the
Black Parents Workshop. The Black Parents Workshop was established in 2014 to address issues of equity and systemic racism in the South Orange-Maplewood School District. The organization filed a federal lawsuit in 2018 in U.S. District Court against the school district and settled the lawsuit in July 2020, with a settlement agreement that is now under the monitor of retired New Jersey Supreme Court Justice John Wallace Jr. The Black Parents Workshop is dedicated to fighting for educational equity and to the academic success of Black children in public schools.

Dr. Morgan has been an integral part of Montclair’s remote learning planning, providing direction, information, and resources to ensure all students have opportunities for learning that regularly engage them and focus on both content and skills. In her position as Assistant Superintendent for Equity, Curriculum and Instruction, Dr. Morgan will be establishing protocols and forming guiding coalitions to enhance the district’s equity efforts; strengthen magnets; provide specific and meaningful professional development; and manage critical learning data to ensure that programs meet targets for equity
