Our Board of Education student representative Genesis Whitlock is offering a weekly online Zoom chat every Sunday at 6 pm for participants to discuss and share what’s happening in the school district and how we can support each other through this difficult time.

Claire Manning, our National Girls and Women in Sports award winner, was invited to play in the High School All American soccer game in St. Louis, MO the weekend of May 27-29.

MHS senior Ava Agostinelli was the first place winner in the Pulitzer Center’s Local Letters for Global Change. She is a member of the high school’s Center for Social Justice. Read her winning entry.

Two groups of high school students have been spending their time on philanthropic efforts for the community.

End the Stigma is a group of about 70 Montclair High School students, primarily sophomores who recently collected items such as stress balls and coloring books for The Jared Box Project, named for a boy who was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 1999 and died in 2000. The boxes are given to children in rehabilitation and outpatient centers who are dealing with mental health or terminal illness issues.

Another group, the Helping Hands Project, founded by MHS senior Lucy Solomon, sold a variety of handmade items on Church Street: earrings, hand-painted holiday cards, stickers, raised $1,000 for the Transgender Law Center. The Helping Hands Project, which now has about 30 people, votes on a cause and an organization to support every year.
